Woman hit by 3 cars; Phila. cops seek person who drove away

PHILADELPHIA - A woman who was struck by three cars Friday morning in Philadelphia has died, reports CBS Philly.

Police said the unidentified woman, who was in her 40s, was crossing a street against a red light in the northern part of the city around 5 a.m. when she was hit by a vehicle. Investigators said the car that struck her never bothered to stop.

The station reports that the woman was then struck by another car, and this time the driver stopped and called police for assistance. Soon after that, a third car hit the victim and also did not stop.

However, police said the third driver contacted authorities after hearing a news report about the incident. She is now cooperating with the investigation, according to CBS Philly.

Police are currently focused on finding the driver of the first car. The station reports the white vehicle - similar to a Dodge Dart - should have front end and windshield damage. "There must be someone that saw something or knows something about this car that would help in the investigation," said a police spokesman.

Officials said there are 15 cameras in the area where the accident occurred and that officers will be reviewing the footage as part of their investigation.

The victim died after being taken to Einstein Medical Center for treatment, according to the station.
