Cops: Man fatally dragged by car after sale arranged over app; girls charged

ROUND LAKE, Ill. -- Three teen girls are facing charges after they allegedly dragged a North Chicago man with their car during a cell phone sale arranged on an app. 43-year-old Trinidad Bueno-Sanchez struck his head during the incident and later died, reports CBS Chicago.

The girls offered to buy the cell phone Bueno-Sanchez had placed for sale using the app, "Offer Up," reports The Chicago Tribune. They had arranged to meet in the parking lot of a Round Lake grocery store April 24, but police say the girls gave him only a fraction of the agreed-upon price.

As Bueno-Sanchez leaned into their car to demand the rest of his money, the teenagers drove off, and Bueno-Sanchez was dragged by the car, the station reports. He fell to the ground, hitting his head.

Bueno-Sanchez was taken to a hospital, where he was on life support for three days until he died.

"This is shocking for everyone involved," Round Lake Beach Deputy Police Chief Michael Scott told the station. "There are thefts that occur, but something of this seriousness, it's actually unheard-of."

Scott said Bueno-Sanchez had a wife and a young child.

"It seems like he took every reasonable step he could to ensure his safety. He did it during daylight. He did it in a public area," Scott said.

The three teens – two 17-year-old girls and an 18-year-old girl – have been charged with reckless homicide and robbery.  The 18-year-old, Courtney A. Sherman, of Fox Lake, was charged as an adult. The other two were charged as juveniles.
