Cop fights parole for female accomplice in brother's murder

LOS ANGELES - A Los Angeles Police Department captain is fighting to keep a woman convicted in his brother's killing behind bars, reports CBS Los Angeles.

Capt. Brian Pratt's brother Danny, who was also an LAPD officer, was fatally shot outside a South Los Angeles gas station while he and a partner were doing undercover work on September 3, 1988...26 years ago.

The shooter was an alleged gang member - Kirkton Moore. Raylean Brooks, then 17, was the getaway driver, according to the station.

Brian Pratt says Brooks, who is up for parole for the second time, continues to show no remorse for her part in the crime.

Pratt told CBS Los Angeles that a simple apology could make all the difference. He just wants to hear Brooks say she was sorry for her role in the murder.

"I'm not saying I want her out of prison tomorrow," Pratt says, "Because I still feel she's a danger. She's taken no accountability for her actions."

He adds, "She was a conscious participant in the murder of a police officer."

Moore, the trigger man, is serving a life sentence. Brooks was tried as an adult and was sentenced to 25 years to life.

"She drove [the car] around the gas station, she drove the car the wrong way on a one-way street, and then gave Kirkton the opportunity to shoot and kill my brother from about 10-15 feet away," said Pratt.

Pratt told the station he will head to the prison where Brooks is housed in a few weeks and at her parole hearing, he will argue she should stay in prison.
