Coming up Sunday: Sanders, Carson, Colbert face the nation

(CBS News) -- After wrapping a busy few weeks campaign trail in key battleground states, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and retired neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson will join us this Sunday. With just 40 days to go until the Iowa caucuses, where do the candidates stand? We will talk to both presidential hopefuls about their latest debate performances and their campaign expectations going into the New Year.

And, in our last show of 2015, we'll reflect on the year that was with Stephen Colbert, host of CBS' Late Show with Stephen Colbert. We'll get his take on this election cycle, including his thoughts on Republican frontrunner Donald Trump. Plus, what would Colbert ask Jesus, if he could interview him? The late night host will also weigh in on the new Star Wars movie and more.

Turning to a galaxy a little closer to home, we'll talk to NASA commander Scott Kelly from space. Kelly, who has spent much of 2015 aboard the International Space Station, will talk about what's changed since his first trip to space in 1999. Plus, we'll ask him about the race for the White House back here on earth, and what he thinks the new year might bring.

Finally, we'll make sense of 2015 and make some predictions about the year ahead with an all-star political panel. We'll be joined by Jeanne Cummings of The Wall Street Journal, James Bennet of The Atlantic, David Rohde from Reuters, and Ben Domenech of The Federalist.

We hope you'll join us. Check your local listings.
