Six tons of illegal ivory destroyed as protest against poaching

In Africa, elephants are being slaughtered at a record pace by poachers who hope to get rich by selling their ivory tusks. On Thursday, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service tossed six tons of confiscated ivory into a rock crusher, in the hopes that other countries would take the same symbolic step and destroy their stockpiles.
