Levin: Nixing commanders' role could "weaken" response to sexual assault

Senate Armed Services Committee chairman Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., said today that he does not support an amendment that would remove the responsibility for prosecuting sexual assault cases from the military chain of command, saying such a step could "weaken" efforts to combat sexual assault because commanders are more likely to prosecute than military lawyers.
