Another beautiful day ahead in North Texas before storm chances return
The First Alert Weather Team has issued a First Alert Weather Day for Thursday, as the threat for scattered severe storms returns.
Thursday starts dry, with some sunshine. But a warm front will be lifting northward through North Texas during the morning, as a dryline sharpens off to our west.
As a result, humidity will be on the rise, and so will temperatures, leading to an increase in instability across the region. Over time, we expect the cap to start to erode, which will lead to scattered severe thunderstorms between about 3-11 p.m.
Storms first develop along the Red River, then look to push closer to the metroplex in time for the evening commute, and linger through the rest of the evening.
This will not be a day that everyone sees storm activity, but where those cells do set up, they will carry a severe threat. Our primary threats will be from large hail. We'll then be watching for wind threats as we get later into the evening. The tornado threat is low, but not zero.
This all clears up Friday and Saturday, then we'll be looking at warm and muggy days as we head into the start of the weekend.
By Sunday, a cold front starts to roll into our area. We look to remain mostly dry to start the day, with showers and thunderstorms returning during the evening and overnight into Memorial Day.
