The 5 Steps for an At-Home Facial

When money is tight the last thing that you want to spend money on is a spa treatment, especially because a spa facial can be upwards of $100. The thing is there are so many great benefits that a facial has on your skin so I understand why it's important to people.

That's why we are going to show you the 5 simple steps to achieve a spa facial in the comforts of your own home. The great thing about this facial is you can find a lot of the ingredients already at your house.

First thing you need to do before you start the steps is to make sure all your make-up is wiped off. You can use make-up remover around your eyes or you can use olive or coconut oil on a cotton ball. Once that's done we can get started.

Step 1 | Cleanse

Wash your face with cool water and a gentle face wash. You can use the one you use to wash your face daily. That is completely okay, there's no point in spending money on a new face wash.

Step 2 | Exfoliate

This step is great to rejuvenate your skin and remove dead skin cells, plus it leaves your skin feeling so smooth. If you already own a face scrub you can use that or you can simply make one using some kitchen products (see Brown Sugar Scrub recipe below).

Brown sugar scrub

Brown Sugar Scrub

-Mix equal parts brown sugar and warm honey. (If you have leftovers, store in an airtight jar.)

***Note: Make sure to gently scrub your T-zone, avoiding the sensitive eye areas. Also if you currently have a severe acne breakout you can skip this step.

Step 3 | Steam

A lot of people would skip this step thinking that it would be difficult to do at home but it's actually very simple. All you have to do it put really hot water in a large deep bowl, then bend over the bowl and place a towel over your head to capture the steam on your face. This will open your pores and help to clear them out. If you have oily skin you may only need 2-3 minutes, for dry skin you can steam between 5-10 minutes.

***Note: Be careful that the water is not too hot, it should not hurt you.

Step 4 | Mask

We are almost done with the steps you guys and this one is my favorite. You can obviously buy a mask in a bottle at the beauty store or to save some $$$ you can make your own (see the recipes below). The thing is, not all masks are created equal and you should be thinking about your skin-type (oily, dry, sensitive, etc) when choosing the right one for you.

This step is going to be your time to relax because after you put the mask on, you are probably going to scare small children so I recommend going in a quiet room, turning on some music, lighting a candle and laying back and relaxing. Extra fancy-points for cucumber slices over the eyes.

Mask Recipes

---Banana Face Mask (for oily skin)

Option A .(if skin is dry) –1 tbsp of Yogurt + Few drops of Honey

Option B . (if skin is oily)   –1 ripe banana + Few drops of lemon juice

Step 5 | Moisturize

You can use your normal face lotion for this step or if you have dry skin you can rub olive, almond or coconut oil into your skin for some extra moisture.

After you're done with all the steps you should be feeling like a new woman (or man). I recommend you avoid putting makeup on your skin for a least 12 hours or so after your facial for best results.

I hope you enjoy your radiant skin!!
