Melissa McCarthy Gets Violent on 'The Heat' Set

I have been so excited about the new film The Heat! I think Melssia McCarthy is a show stealer and I can't wait to spend two hours laughing at her crazy antics! Naturally, as soon as I saw T.M. (aka CW44's Couch Potato) after his screening of The Heat, I had to ask him what he thought of the movie... you can find his thoughts here! After I got the scoop from him, I had to know more.

As our Couch Potato mentioned in his review, the movie is full of exciting action. But what you may not know is just how violent McCarthy can be. According to People Magazine, during filming, McCarthy chucked a phone book right into co-star Michael McDonald's nose (it was in the script, but still)! In reaction to the blow, McCarthy ran to McDonald's aid only to slide on the weapon in question (the book) and fall flat on the ground. What a deleted scene that could have been!?

McDonald explained the intention for the scene in an interview with People Magazine, "When we rehearsed it, [Melissa] was six feet away, but when we shot it, she was like two feet away. So she threw it and it was like, 'Boom!' It came so hard and so fast." McDonald went on to explain that he is partially to blame for the stunt-gone-wrong. He said, "First they had a prop phone book and they were showing it to me and they were like, 'You know, we don't want to hurt you,' I said, 'This prop phone book looks fake and it looks like it would hurt. Let's just use a real phone book'". Moral of the story Michael, never put a real phone book into the hands of Melissa McCarthy.
Luckily, both actors are just fine, but now we know, McCarthy is not one to mess with. Find out what CW44's Couch Potato thinks of The Heat here and see it yourself in theatres this weekend!
