History Awaits For Mack And Davis V SMU

Another bye week has come and gone. The USF Bulls (3-6, 2-3 AAC) are licking their wounds from a 27-3 defeat at the hands of the Houston Cougars back on November 1 in which they were kept out of the end zone for the first time all season. Steven Bench was the starter at quarterback for that game as Mike White was benched for the first time all year.

Fast forward two weeks and there's another quarterback change for the Bulls as freshman Quinton Flowers was named as the starter heading into Saturday's game against a winless SMU team. Flowers, a four-star recruit out of Miami, has seen action in three games this season coming in primarily to use his legs in the running game and read-option plays. Saturday, he'll be called on to lead the Bulls into Dallas for just the second time in their history and first ever time visiting an SMU team who is also in the midst of a quarterback change.

Despite facing a team looking for their first win of the season, Taggart says it doesn't matter. The Bulls need to focus on getting the win, themselves.

"For us, it's not about who we're playing," Taggart said Tuesday. "It's about us playing big time football. It's about playing for four quarters and playing a complete game."

Saturday's game could very well see more history made not just for wide receiver Andre Davis but freshman running back Marlon Mack, as well. Davis, who already holds 12 USF receiving records, looks to notch one more piece of history on Saturday as he sits just 42 yards away from 2,000 in his USF career. Mack sits just 172 yards away from becoming just the fourth running back in USF history to reach 1,000 yards in season. For Davis, it's not about records.

"I knew it was coming sooner or later," Davis said. "It is what it is. I'm more looking forward to winning these last three games."

The last three games are vital for the Bulls who must win out in order to qualify for a bowl game.

"Coach T put it as a three-game playoff," said Davis about the importance of the last three games. "First game of the playoffs is beating SMU. We gotta go out there and win it and keep going."

Kickoff for Saturday's game is set for 8:00 PM from Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas.
