BREAKING: Revis Unlikely to Be Traded Before Wednesday Deadline
Just hours ago, we all thought the Bucs might be in a good position with two teams entering a bidding war. Just hours later, Revis might just get flat-out released by the Bucs.
While the Bucs are sure to be blamed by a majority of their fans for this, there had been plenty of opportunities for Revis to restructure his inflated deal to either stay with the Buccaneers or be traded to one of the teams interested in trading for him. Instead, Revis is holding true to his current deal which will likely be terminated when the Bucs release him on Wednesday.
Revis is currently making $6 million more per year than the next highest paid cornerback. On the open market, Revis will likely land a deal worth around $12 million per year.
Why is he not considering restructuring to stay with the Bucs or to facilitate a trade to another team? My assumption is that, with Revis, it will always be about the money. Always has been and always will be. There was a reason the Jets parted ways with him, and the Bucs are just following suit.
UPDATE: The New York Daily News reports Darrelle Revis would "love" a reunion with the Jets.
