Sometimes it seems that moms receive more credit for parenting, perhaps because of the unique bond they share with the child through pregnancy or perhaps because of the nurturing stereotype they're given in media. Either way, our fathers deserve a day of celebration to honor their contributions, too. Take advantage of the Tampa Bay area's assets by checking out these five great activities and events for Father's Day weekend. They're guaranteed to provide fun and excitement not just for dads, but for the whole family.

1101 W. Sligh Ave.
Tampa, FL 33604
A diverse collection of more than 2,000 animals and sea life awaits, both from around Florida and around the world at the only zoo in the Tampa Bay area. Lowry Park will open its gates for dads for free with the purchase of one full-priced admission ticket for an adult or child. The offer will stay valid for all of Father's Day weekend, June 15-16, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets cannot be purchased in advance, but rather on site that weekend.
Fantasy of Flight
1400 Broadway Blvd. S.E.
Polk City, FL 33868
Hot air balloons, zip lines and flight simulators, what more could one ask for to make humanity's dream of flying come to life? Fantasy of Flight exhibits the largest privately owned vintage aircraft collection worldwide. To celebrate Father's Day, the park will allow free entrance from Thursday the 13th until Sunday the 16th to all dads who come with a paying visitor, youth or adult. Just remember, this may not be the ideal place to take a dad afraid of heights or with vertigo.
The Florida Aquarium
701 Channelside Drive
Tampa, FL 33602
As at the Zoo, the Florida Aquarium advertises the same deal for dads to get in free when one buys a full-priced admission. In this case, more than 20,000 fish, whales, dolphins, manta rays, penguins and other animals thrive in this uniquely designed building. The central location at Channelside makes exploring downtown or Ybor City easy to do afterward. Don't miss the fun-filled Explore-a-Shore area for kids to play while adults can enjoy a drink at the adjacent cantina.
Dolphin Landings Charter Boat Center
4737 Gulf Blvd.
St. Pete Beach, FL 33706
With 40 years of experience and six different captains to guide you, Dolphin Landings provides some of the most popular and well-known charter boat trips available in the region. While the company's precise plans had not been finalized at time of print, last year it offered five different day cruises and short excursions with special prices for dads. For instance, spot one of some 700 dolphins known to live in Boca Ciega Bay on the Dolphin Watch trip. Enjoy a gorgeous sunset painted across the largest of canvasses, the sea. The Center also makes fishing trips and sailing lessons available for special prices during Father's Day weekend.
Henry B. Plant Museum
401 W. Kennedy Blvd.
Tampa, FL 33606
On a quest to create the ideal vacation destination for travelers from the north over 100 years ago, rail developer Henry Plant built the monolithic Tampa Bay Hotel. While the complex now serves as the University of Tampa, visitors can trace the evolution of the site as well as the history of Tampa's growth. Dads can enter for free on Father's Day and enjoy this splendid time capsule from the 1890s.
