Arrow Reveals Secrets at Comic-Con

Arrow held a panel at the San Diego Comic-Con this past Saturday, July 20th. The series stars Stephen Amell, Katie Cassidy, David Ramsey, Emily Bett Rickards and Colton Haynes were joined by writers and executive producers Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg. The panel was full of surprises and spoilers!

SPOILER ALERT! This post contains information about the second season of Arrow!

City of Heroes

The storyline in season 2 will pick up 5 months after the events from the season 1 finale. Everybody is dealing with the tragedy and some people are in a better place than others. Season 2 will be about Oliver becoming an actual hero; it's his transition from the Hood to Green Arrow. Kreisberg said that Starling City is worse than before which makes Oliver understand that this city needs a hero and a symbol of hope. Oliver's mission is no longer about crossing out names from a notebook anymore.

Family Bonds

Last time we saw Moira, she was heading to prison for being an accomplice to Merlyn's plan to destroy The Glades. Andrew Kreisberg announced that this season will be Moira's season of redemption. The question is: can she make amends for everything she did? On the other hand, Oliver will take more interest in Queen Consolidated which will be a difficult task for him because now his last name is associated with mass-murder. Also, Thea will be running Oliver's nightclub! She is going to love that.

Goodbye Tommy

Home Invasion

Tommy will play a big role in Oliver's transition to Green Arrow and becoming the hero the city needs. Amell said that from this season on, everything that Oliver does will be to honor Tommy because he feels his best friend died thinking he was a murderer and a horrible person. He feels responsible for his death. Also, after Tommy's death, we don't know what will happen between Oliver and Laurel. Katie Cassidy explains that as much as Laurel loves Oliver, she also loved Tommy, so she doesn't know where Laurel and Oliver stand with each other.

New DC Characters

More DC characters will appear in the new season! They are going to show the beginning of Black Canary, but like many of the show's comic characters, she may not end up being the ultimate Black Canary. They will also reveal if Slade Wilson becomes DeathStroke and whether the character will be a villain or an anti-hero. The new DC characters will also include: Sebastian Blood (character inspired by the New Teen Titans nemesis Brother Blood) played by the actor Kevin Alejandro and the character Ben Turner (better known as Bronze Tiger) will be played by Michael Jai White.

Roy Harper's Superhero Future

They didn't reveal if Roy will be part of Oliver's team. Haynes says that "Season 2 will almost be like an island for Roy like it was for Oliver." He also said that Roy realizes he is not as big a badass as he thinks he is and he needs to be knocked down a couple of times before he gets help from others. Roy Harper also needs to work harder to gain acceptance from Oliver as Thea's boyfriend.

Surprise Appearance

Darkness on the Edge of Town

The panel had a couple of surprises to announce! The Executive Producers announced that their original character John Diggle will be introduced in DC comic world. John Barrowman, who plays Malcolm Merlyn, made a surprise appearance at the panel. He came wearing an Arrow shirt that he wanted the cast to sign so he can sell the shirt in China! There were talks about bringing Merlyn back, but the producers joked "People can't come back from the death!" Barrowman reminded them that Merlyn could be seen in flashbacks... good point! Maybe we will see Malcolm in the series again!
