Man convicted in series of murders, attempted murders in Sacramento-area sentenced to life in prison
SACRAMENTO – A man has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after he was convicted of killing two homeless people and attempting to kill two other homeless people in Sacramento County in 2023.
The Sacramento County District Attorney's Office said Diego Flores, 50, was convicted in December 2024 of two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder. He was then sentenced to life without the possibility of parole last week.
On March 16, 2023, prosecutors said Flores tried to kill a man by shooting him twice in the head.
Four days after that, prosecutors said Flores burglarized a woman's trailer and threatened to kill the woman for calling law enforcement. The next day, firefighters responded to the same trailer, finding it on fire and the woman's body inside.
Prosecutors said she died from a single gunshot wound to the head.
Later in the day on March 21, 2023, Flores tried to kill another man by shooting him four times, including once in the head, prosecutors said.
Then 10 days later, a missing man's body was found in a shallow grave at the Haggin Oaks Golf Course, with prosecutors saying it appeared the victim was shot in the back of the head. Witnesses then identified Flores as the shooter, prosecutors said.
All the victims were people who were homeless, prosecutors said.
