STOCKTON — Investigators responding to a reported kidnapping in Stockton rescued a woman and arrested two men overnight after a short chase, the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday.

The sheriff's office said it believes the woman, who was found unharmed, may have been a victim of trafficking.

Just after 1 a.m. Tuesday, a caller reported to authorities that two men abducted a woman at a truck stop near Charter Way, just west of Interstate 5. The suspects' vehicle was located around 10 minutes later in the area of Charter Way and Navy Drive, the sheriff's office said, but fled from an attempted traffic stop.

After what amounted to a three-minute car chase, the suspects arrived at a dead end, where authorities said the two men abandoned the vehicle then tried to get away on foot.

One of the suspects was arrested after a brief foot chase. Officers from the Stockton Police Department also responded to the scene and assisted with the first arrest. The second suspect made his way onto the freeway but was arrested by a sheriff's deputy along the southbound shoulder of I-5.

A loaded gun was found in the yard of a home the suspects passed through while trying to evade law enforcement.

The two men were identified as Suisun City resident Isaiah Thompson and Sacramento resident Damon Perkins. The sheriff's office said the two men face charges of felony evading, conspiracy to commit a crime, and multiple weapons violations.

The sheriff's office said the case was forwarded to a human trafficking task force for further investigation.
