Republican Tony Moreno launches another run for Pittsburgh mayor
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Tony Moreno is running for Pittsburgh mayor again as a Republican.
Moreno ran against Mayor Gainey in the 2021 primary election as a Democrat and in the 2021 general election as a Republican. In that general election, he got around 28% of the vote.
"Please, Pittsburgh, get involved, vote for Tony Moreno for mayor and I'll make all your wildest dreams come true," he said.
KDKA-TV asked him if running as a Republican is a strategic move.
"No, that's where I live. I believe in the conservative values. The Republican party is the only place that I have to be," Moreno said.
If elected, he promises transparency, accountability, expansion of the police force and a bump in salary.
"Ladies and gentlemen of the city of Pittsburgh, I would appreciate if you vote for me. This is not a Democrat Republican issue, this is an issue about Pittsburgh. We need to bring that grit back," Moreno said.
On the Democratic side, Allegheny County Controller Corey O'Connor is challenging Mayor Gainey with the primary set for May 20.
