MT. LEBANON (KDKA) — Salt is a hot commodity as western Pennsylvania has been continuously battered by winter weather. Local suppliers say they've been working hard to keep up with demand.

Ken Mura purchased four bags at Rollier's in Mt. Lebanon on Friday.

"Right now, it's in big demand, and with this cold snap coming in, who knows how much snow we are going to get," he said.

Hardware stores are trying to stay on top of the demand.

"It's been tough to keep up. All we can do is try to access what we can," said Brett Satterfield, a part owner of Rollier's.

Satterfield said the regional facilities that fill orders have been backed up.

"We'll probably stock out sometime this weekend and we have more product coming in next week on Thursday or Friday," Satterfield said.

Like Rollier's, Evey True Value Hardware and Rental is constantly ordering salt.

"This has been our first major winter probably in about four years and all of our customers have been saying they've used up everything they've had, so there's been a massive run on salt products," said Bob Schroeder, the general manager of Every True Value Hardware and Rental.

For right now, Rollier's doesn't have limits on bags.
