Souderton To Build Playground To Honor Skyler Kauffman

SOUDERTON, Pa. (CBS) - A group of Montgomery County residents believe they've come up with a way to bring the community closer together in the wake of the tragic murder of nine-year-old Skyler Kauffman last week (see previous story).

The group says it's been inspired by the young girl and they want to do something to bring the community together. They brainstormed and came up with the idea of a playground, but not just a few swings and a slide. It will be more like the Mandarach Playground in Limerick that was born out of a tragedy involving a child.

Tina Dividock of Harleysville is one of the organizers.

"It's just a way that we felt that it would like turn around and give the kids in the neighborhood kind of something to look forward to and something to feel safe about."

They call their effort "Project Safe Playground." The goal is to give the kids input on what they would like to see. They're also hoping to find an area company that could sponsor the project.

The Souderton Borough Council's public works committee is expected to discuss the issue at its meeting next month.
