Cloudy weather for Philadelphia Eagles' NFC title game on Sunday; forecast includes wind chill temp in the 30s
It's hard to believe this is already the last weekend of January, and two-thirds of the way through winter.
After a bitterly cold month – especially this past week – our temperatures will finally warm above freezing with highs in the low 30s on Saturday and low 40s on Sunday.
Skies will be sunny during the day and cloudy Saturday night as a weak front approaches the area. The clouds will stick around through Sunday morning before clearing to sunshine later in the day as the front crosses the region.
For the Eagles and Commanders NFC championship game, skies will start partly to mostly cloudy and clear during the game.
Early morning tailgaters will have mostly cloudy skies and a milder start to the day in the upper 20s. At kickoff, temperatures will be in a more seasonable range in the low 40s, with a wind chill in the mid-30s.
Our work week ahead begins sunny with highs staying in the 40s. A series of weak clipper-type systems pass by to our north through Wednesday. These systems will be moisture-starved and bring periods of clouds, but little or no chance of precipitation.
Despite a milder, prevalent west-to-southwest wind we will warm more slowly this week due to cooling from our remaining snowpack.
By Wednesday it will almost feel balmy compared to the last week with temperatures in the upper 40s for Philly. Highs into the 50s are possible in southern Delaware.
Late Wednesday night a stronger front arrives bringing the chance of a rain or snow shower. Behind the front is another push of cold air — not as cold as last week, but cold enough that we reach high temperatures only near freezing on Thursday. That's a drop of 15-20 degrees from Wednesday's high.
The month of January will end cold with sunshine and highs near freezing.
Temperature trends for the month: below average
With so many days of below average temperatures, the month of January will end up with below normal temps for sure!
Be aware that while you may look forward to all of that mild air it will also create a large black ice problem with all of our melting snow refreezing at night.
Many of our rivers, large and small have frozen over and there may also be some ice damming as the ice thaws and breaks apart.
