"Preakness At The Piazza" Brings Southern Charm To Northern Liberties

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The rain didn't put a damper on a Preakness watch party for charity.
About 1500 people gathered under the tents at the Piazza to watch the Preakness. They dressed up to throw down.
"I have these green seersucker pants and the only time I can wear them is St. Patty's Day or horse race parties," said one person in attendance.
The race was shown on a massive 40 foot outside the tents, but it was hard to see and most people were more interested in eating and drinking anyway.
"Beverages are great. I've consumed more beverages than food, but look at everybody that comes out and embraces the theme. And that's really nice to see," said another attendee.
Event founder Geoff Gross says the goal is to raise $200,000 for the Multiple sclerosis society of the Delaware Valley.
"As you can see, everyone gets decked out and derby dresses, hats, sear sucker, bow ties. It's really an attire themed event," said Gross.
This is the fourth year of Preakness at the Piazza and so far they have raised about $500,000.
