The snow has been falling since Sunday afternoon.  The highest totals are expected along the I-95 corridor and Philadelphia up into the Lehigh Valley and Poconos.

There will be lulls in the action across South Jersey where the snow will mix with rain before turning to all snow later this evening. Along the shore and across southern Delaware will see rain with some slushy snow later this evening.

A few heavy bands of snow will continue to blanket the area with snowfall rates of up to 1 inch per hour. Visibility in some cases will be down to near zero. Calm winds and fog will also be an issue as we head into the early evening hours.

Roads will be snow-packed and make travel difficult from north and west of the city later this evening. Plan on air cancellations and rail delays.

Winter storm warnings are in effect for all southeastern Pennsylvania, including Philadelphia, through 1 a.m. Monday. This is the area that will receive the highest snow totals ranging from 3-6 inches in Philly to 5-9 inches in the Lehigh Valley and Poconos.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for northern Delaware and for Salem, Gloucester and Burlington counties closest to I-95 in South Jersey through 1 a.m. Monday. These areas will receive 2-4 inches of wet snow after some rain and mixing.

Unlike our last round of winter weather, the Jersey Shore is set to see the least amount of snow with this system. A trace to about 2 inches is possible along the shore, with 2-4 inches expected along inland South Jersey.

The snow starts to taper off Sunday night between 7 and 9 p.m., but after that, frigid cold moves in.

Temperatures plummet on Monday and Tuesday

On Monday, winds increase and temperatures begin to plummet, but at least the sunshine returns. Temperatures will be frigid in the teens to start the day and highs will only reach the mid-20s.

Monday night we drop to the single digits in the city and near or below zero in some areas away from the city.

Tuesday and Wednesday will only see highs in the mid-teens with lows across the region between -2 and 9 degrees. The deep freeze continues Thursday, but we'll finally climb above freezing for the first time in nearly five days on Friday.
