Lunch Break: An International Affair

Belgian, Italian, or American; whatever your fancy this Friday, we've got you covered in today's New York Lunch Break. By Yvo Sin.

Resto

111 E 29th St
New York, NY 10016
(212) 685-5585
restonyc.com

Resto's roots are a Belgian bistro, which shows clearly in its casual menu. The lunch menu is even more laidback; try the deviled eggs (pictured) - pork toast is ineffable, quite unlike anything else. When asked what it is, a server might tell you that it's pork jowl deep fried; all you really need to know is that you'll taste essence of pork, captured in a crispy, deep fried square. For those on the go, try the Resto Brown Bag Lunch - $14 gets you the sandwich of the day, Belgian frites and housemade slaw. And if you overindulged at last night's happy hour, a dish named Belgian Hangover Pasta will take care of that for you.

Salumeria Tosi

283 Amsterdam Ave
New York, NY 10023
(212) 877-4800
salumeriarosi.com

Salumeria Rosi offers a wide range of salumi, or cured meats, enough to make your head spin and reach for an Italian dictionary to translate the multitude of meats offered. Take a seat and browse the extensive selection, ask the server questions, and piece together the perfect meal - or choose from the cooked dishes, like a lasagna that is out of this world or the gnocchi - hand rolled, freshly made from sweet potatoes, dressed with sage, roasted garlic and pecorino romano, delicious. No matter what you choose, you'll be in good hands.

David Burke Kitchen

23 Grand St
New York, NY 10013
(212) 201-9119

Step into this sleek place and revel in the fact that though you're mere steps from the hustle and bustle of SoHo, you'll feel completely removed in the quiet space. The menu will continue the feeling of tranquility as you discover a reasonably priced fantastc selecion of dishes. Menu standouts include any of the "jars" (spreads meant for toast that are served in jars), the pastrami salmon on pretzel bread, the short rib ravioli... really, just about anything on the menu is delicious, so order whatever strikes your fancy, and set your weekend in motion.
