Only one of the four accused test takers showed up for his court appearance - Michael Pomerantz, 18, who faces felony charges for allegedly being paid $500 to take the college entrance exam for another student.
He was wearing jeans and a blue coat and stood silent as the case was adjourned until February.
The other three defendants are currently in college and were not required to appear in court. They also have court dates next month.
Pomerantz's attorney, Scott Kline, said in the next few weeks discussions will be taking place with the district attorney's office.
So, could a plea deal be in the works?
"We're still talking to the DA's office. They're still talking to us. We're still trying to resolve any questions that we have and they have where there can be a deal, a resolution that would work in everybody's favor," said attorney Eric Sachs, who represents defendant George Trane.
Sachs said right now there is no deal on the table.
The DA's office had no comment.
Sam Eshaghoff, 19, was the first person charged last year with taking college entrance exams for students in exchange for cash. He talked exclusively to "60 Minutes" about his scam, how he got involved and how easy it was to pull off.
"I thought that there was an easy way to make money. And just like any other easy way to make money, it's always too good to be true," he said.
