Stormy-Weather Names
Anyone who lived through Hurricane Mitch or Hurricane Georges won't soon forget them. And that's why the group that decides on names for storms is retiring those two.
The World Meteorological Organization comes up with the list of names each year. It also decides which storms were so devastating that the names should be retired. With Georges and Mitch off the list, that brings the number of retired names to 49.
Other infamous storm names already scrapped include Hugo, Andrew and Camille.
When this year's season rolls around, the 1993 name list will be repeated, starting with Arlene and - if need be - running through Wilma.
The the tropical storm and hurricane names for this year in the Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean, have been determined by the organization's hurricane committee.
