Say Hello To Jack Brown

There's a saying in the NYPD that cops "bleed blue," the color of their uniforms, because of the extraordinary sense of community that exists in the department.

It seems like there's an equally strong commitment among the men and women of London's Metropolitan Police, where Richard and Yvonne Brown are both Detective Sergeants. The couple have been enduring the illness of their youngest son with help from their comrades -- and now some help from the NYPD.

At a time when other boys his age are fully absorbed by Thomas the Tank Engine books, six-year-old Jack Brown is facing yet another round of chemotherapy to eradicate the neuroblastoma which has caused him so much discomfort. The NB is a solid tumor, and while there's been some success with conventional cancer therapies, Jack and his parents are hoping that some newer, more experimental treatments will do the trick.

Unfortunately, those treatments are not covered by insurance. So the Brown's Metropolitan Police friends -- 16 of them -- will be bicycling from New York to Rhode Island to raise money for Jack's treatment. They'll be joined along the way by members of the NYPD, with some corporate support from BMW.

Their first stop in New York, however, was at The Early Show, where Jack got to meet Harry, Hannah and Dave.
