A foot air bag is among the thousands of new gadgets on display at the Society of Automotive Engineers convention this week.
The 3-inch bags, designed by Siemens AG, lie beneath the driver's floor mat. They're designed to change the angle of the feet to prevent them from being crushed by the pedals in an accident.
The first foot air bags are scheduled to appear next year in two European luxury cars, The Detroit News reported today. The bags could arrive in the United States shortly afterward.
