Milk Recall Expanded

Kohler Mix Specialties Inc. is expanding its milk recall nationwide to include all products produced at its plant here.

The expansion of the recall, due to possible contamination, came four days after Kohler recalled certain single-serving cartons of Land O'Lakes 2 percent milk in eight Midwest states.

The recall now includes all 50 states and involves 270,000 cases of products, spokeswoman Kathy Tunheim said Saturday.

The products include half and half, whipping cream, skim, 1 and 2 percent and whole milk and chocolate milk packaged for Becker's, Dairy Fresh, Hardees, Kemps, Kohler Mix, Land O'Lakes, Muller Pinehurst, Oak Grove, Perkins, Roundy's and Wendy's.

The plant code of "PLT 27-416" is found on the top seal of the carton along with the use by date.

The recall was prompted after a customer turned in a carton that "had an off odor," a Kohler spokesman has said. All samples have tested negative for the presence of listeria. There were no reports of serious illness.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, pregnant women, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems.

Consumers may call Kohler Mix at 800-248-3447 or Land O'Lakes at 800-328-4155 for further information.
