(CBS) - Max Payne 3 has been given a release date of March 2012, and today we're getting a first sneak peak at some of the action.
The Rockstar title has made CNET's "most anticipated games of the year" list two consecutive years in a row.
The Max Payne series was extraordinarily successful in the PC gaming scene when it debuted in 2001 and followed similar success when it was transplanted to consoles the following year. Known for its unique stylized graphic-novel storytelling aesthetic, many credit the Max Payne series from for bringing "bullet-time" into mainstream gaming.
The franchise even spawned a 2008 film adaptation of the same name starring Mark Wahlberg.
Now, Rockstar Games is finally bringing the long-awaited follow-up to Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC next year.
"Still haunted by the memories of his traumatic past, Max begins a new life working private security protecting a wealthy industrialist and his family in São Paulo, Brazil," reads the YouTube video's description. "When gangs target the family under his protection, Max is forced to fight to save his clients and clear his name, in a bid to, once and for all, rid himself of the demons that have tortured him for far too long."
