Jeff Fager On Dennis Kozlowski's Stipulation

In addition to the Edwards interview, last night's "60 Minutes" included a profile of former Tyco C.E.O. Dennis Kozlowski, who is now behind bars.

Early in the interview, "60 Minutes" correspondent Morley Safer said that Kozlowski "agreed to speak with one stipulation, that we would not include anyone else in this story."

I asked "60 Minutes" Executive Producer Jeff Fager why he agreed to that condition.

"It's something we don't do easily," he said. "We wouldn't do it on certain stories. But this is an interview-driven story. We didn't have much interest in anybody but the guy himself, so it wasn't that tough a decision."

Fager noted that Kozlowski's case was already widely reported, and said what "60 Minutes" was ultimately interested in was the person at the center of it. As Safer said in the piece, Kozlowski had "not really" spoken publicly about what happened.

"We were not out to try the case – it was tried," said Fager. "60 Minutes," he added, would not have put anyone else in the story even without Kozlowski's request. "It was only 12 minutes," Fager said. "I'm fascinated to hear from him."
