NEW YORK (CBS) The 53rd annual Grammy Awards will be handed out on Sunday, but the only thing that can outshine the trophies is the red carpet report.

The Grammys is traditionally an event at which stars wear more provocative fashions - and that has led to a series of hot looks and hot messes over the years.

Celebrity stylist Felix Mercado shared his picks for best and worst dressed from the past decade.

Mercado put Britney Spears (in Dolce & Gabana) and Adam Lambert (in Dior Homme) in a tie for fourth place at last year's ceremony, calling them "a match made in fashion hell." Also on the worst-dressed list is Imogen Heap (in Pinar Enis) at the 2007 Grammys.

And at the top of the worst dressed list? M.I.A. - twice.

The eclectic artist, who was then pregnant with her first child, tied herself for the worst dressed of the decade with her two outfits from the 2009 Grammys. One was a Manish Arora number, and the other was by House of Holland.

As for the best of the decade, Gwen Stefani did maternity chic right in 2006, with an animal-print gown from her L.A.M.B. label.

Beyonce also made the list in a black Cavalli gown, as did Rihanna for her cobalt-blue Zac Posen dress from the 2010 Grammys, and her elegant white Elie Saab gown from the 2010 ceremony.

But Toni Braxton topped all of them to be named best-dressed, in a white Richard Tyler gown that showed more skin than fabric, at the 2001 Grammys.

And when the stars walk the red carpet at Sunday's ceremony, Lady Gaga is among the artists Mercado is most excited to see.

"It's always mystifying to see what she wears next," he said. "I'm also curious to see Katy Perry - always a fun dresser."

Check out the photos below of the best and worst of the decade, and tune in on Sunday at 8 p.m. EST on CBS to see who wins this year's Grammy Awards.
