Google gets Nevada driver's license for self-driving cars

Google

(AP) CARSON CITY, Nev. - Nevada has issued the country's first license to test self-driving cars on public roads, and Google's name is on it.

The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles said Monday that the worldwide technology company met the state's requirements after demonstrating the cars in the capital of Carson City and on the Las Vegas Strip.

DMV Director Bruce Breslow says the cars will display easily recognizable red plates. They'll also feature an infinity symbol, which Breslow says best represents the car of the future.

Once the autonomous cars are out of the test phase and on the market, the plates will be green.

Nevada is the first state to regulate self-driving cars, which work like an auto-pilot to guide a vehicle with little or no intervention from the human driver.
