The Philadelphia Flyers acquired left wing Mikael Andersson and right wing Sandy McCarthy from the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday in a trade for left wing Colin Forbes and a conditional draft pick.
Flyers general manager Bob Clarke said Saturday that Andersson "will be as good or better penalty killer than what Forbes has been for us." Andersson has been out for the last 18 games due to a sprained knee and will not be ready to play for at least another week.
Andersson, 32, had two goals and three assists in 40 games for Tampa Bay this season. He has scored 93 goals in 699 career games.
Clarke said McCarthy, at 6-foot-3, 225 pounds, would give the Flyers "some team toughness."
McCarthy, 26, had 12 points and 138 penalty minutes in 67 games for the Lightning this season. He has racked up 35 goals and 37 assists for 72 points and 939 penalty minutes in 357 NHL career games.
Forbes, 23, had nine goals and 16 points in 66 games for the Flyers this season.
