Dems Hammer Bush On "Mission Accomplished"

Man, talk about a photo op gone wrong.

Democrats have featured a large poster-size photo of President Bush delivering his "Mission Accomplished" speech during their one-minute speeches on the House floor Tuesday to criticize the president for his refusal to sign a timeline for withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq.

The poster features Bush delivering his famous speech from the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln four years ago Tuesday declaring an end to major combat in Iraq with the "Mission Accomplished" banner hanging behind him.

The photo op - which included the president landing in an F-18 - was both lauded and panned at the time, but the image now haunts Bush as the war grinds on in its fifth year.

Against this backdrop, he is expected to veto a war-funding bill for Iraq shortly after receiving it from Congress. Democratic leaders will host an enrollment ceremony this afternoon to officially send Bush their bill that would require the administration to start withdrawing U.S. troops by Oct. 1 of this year at the latest.

Republicans are taking shots at the Democrats during their own remarks on the floor for sending the president a bill that forces a withdrawal.
