Cubs Manager Given New Deal


Jim Riggleman's contract to manage the Chicago Cubs was extended by one year through the 2000 season on Wednesday.

Riggleman, whose contract was extended through the 1999 season on Aug. 5, has led the Cubs to a 307-324 record in four seasons. Chicago went 90-73 this season advanced to the playoffs for the first time since 1989 but was swept by Atlanta in the first round.
