Stoney Case, a backup quarterback the past four years with the Arizona Cardinals, signed with the Indianapolis Colts on Monday as an unrestricted free agent.
Terms of the contract were not disclosed, although The Indianapolis Star reported last week that Case was offered a two-year, $2 million contract that included a $500,000 signing bonus.
Case, 26, is the fifth free agent and the first offensive player signed by the Colts since the free-agent signing period began on Feb. 12. He will remain a backup in Indianapolis, playing behind Peyton Manning.
Case, Arizona's third-round draft pick in 1995, has played in just four games, and his only career start was at Philadelphia in 1997.
He told The Star, "I understand Peyton is the man but you need more than one good quarterback. I know I can step in and do the job if something happens to Peyton."
