Bulls Assistant Joins Jackson

Frank Hamblen quit Friday as Chicago Bulls assistant to join former Bulls coach Phil Jackson with the Los Angeles Lakers.

"I've had to make the toughest decision of my life in leaving the Bulls," said Hamblen, a 29-year NBA coaching veteran who spends his offseasons in Del Mar, Calif. "I'm very sure that the team is on its way back to excellence in the near future. But now I can be in Southern California and be with a fine organization," he said.

The 1969 Syracuse graduate spent three years in Chicago after nine seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks. He also had stints with the San Diego Rockets, Kansas City Kings, Sacramento Kings and Houston Rockets.

Another Bulls assistant, Tex Winter, also may leave for the Lakers. He is vacationing in Greece and pondering retirement, coach Tim Floyd said.
