Astros' Bell Placed On DL

Houston Astros right fielder Derek Bell was placed on the team's 15-day disabled list Tuesday, a day after straining his left groin.

Bell was hitting .244 with 11 homers and 61 RBIs.

Astros manager Larry Dierker shuffled his starting outfield Tuesday night, moving center fielder Carl Everett to right field. Glen Barker started in center field and Lance Berkman went to left.

"We'll give Barker a couple of games and hit him in the two spot and see if we can get some energy at the spot," Dierker said. "We know he can play defense and run the bases. We need to find out if he can get on base."

Barker, the Astros' fastest runner, has played in 60 games and is hitting .333 with six RBIs and 13 steals.

Russ Johnson was recalled from Class Triple-A New Orleans to take Bell's roster spot.
