Parents choose to homeschool their children for a number of reasons. According to Education News, the number of homeschooled children has increased by 75 percent since 1999. Parents and students who are homeschooled may be interested in the many resources available to help enhance the experience of learning from home. Here are a few of the best resources for homeschool families in Minnesota.

Minnesota Homeschoolers' Alliance is considered one of the go-to sources in Minnesota for homeschool information. For parents and students looking for information and laws on how to begin homeschooling or for those who are just searching for an opportunity to connect with other homeschool families, MHA covers just about all of it. There are also a number of homeschool events to participate in as well as the MHA Annual Conference and numerous avenues for networking with other students and families.

The Science Museum of Minnesota is always a fun and educational family outing. However, the Science Museum also provides a number of programs designed for bringing science home to students who are independently educated. Students and their parents can choose to visit science exhibits such as "Homeschool Science Club: Constructopedia," or can choose to attend an afternoon homeschool lab. There are also educator guides available that can be incorporated into the homeschool science curriculum and used before and after visiting the museum.

Although the Minnesota Council for the Gifted and Talented focuses on parents and educators of gifted children, there is also a specific homeschool chapter. This chapter of the Council currently has more than 90 member families and is comprised of parents who homeschool or may be considering homeschooling gifted children. Parent meetings are held monthly in addition to activities for both parents and students such as curriculum fairs, group classes, Middle School Math League team and field trips.
