Police: Patient Admits To Killing Fellow Assisted Living Facility Resident

PASADENA (CBS) — A patient at an assisted living facility has admitted to killing a fellow resident, police said Tuesday.

Paul Lopez, 38, a resident at Pasadena Residential Care, in the 1400 block of North Garfield Avenue, was booked on suspicion of murder in the death of 61-year-old George Shatford, who was also residing at the facility.

Police responded to the facility Monday evening when an employee approached and asked for help regarding a patient not breathing. Paramedics from the Pasadena Fire Department were unable to revive Shatford.

Officers investigating Shatford's death say Lopez approached them and admitted to killing him. An autopsy is underway to determine the cause of Shatford's death.

Lopez is being held on $1 million bail.

California Health & Human Services Agency officials have been notified.
