Los Angeles is ripe with photographers and fauxtographers. The latter group includes just about anyone, even a person who doesn't have a dedicated camera and only snaps shots from his or her phone. The former group is a tribe of well established, highly trained professionals who devote some or all of their life's work to documenting what they see and how they see it by way of images. Even when these shooters use their phones to display work on Instagram, their work typically stands out. That said, consider adding the following authentic photographers to your list of favorites.

Ed Valfre

You can't go wrong by adding Ed Valfre's Instagram account to your own. This man can capture an image like nobody else. He's got that kind of great eye that sees all, both the details and the whole picture. Along with that enviable trait, Ed is a self-described "observer of the world" who "likes to make things up" and does so, especially on his blog called Ed Valre's Dreamland. The words on his site go hand-in-hand with the giant imagination behind his world-class photographs.

Laura Hull

Her photography, which can be seem on both Instagram and on her site, has appeared in Metropolitan Home Magazine, Ideat, LUXE, Angeleno, Brazilian Vogue, Living, Etc. and The New York Times. In addition, her one-of-a-kind works have been placed in private homes, corporations and hotels, as well as galleries and museums around the country.

David Kafer

His work, which he studied from an early age and which he honed at the prestigious Brooks Institute where he earned a Masters in Fine Art, is a lifelong pursuit for this camera-snapping fellow. His portraits are mesmerizing and his fashion shots are influential. Check them out on Instagram and on his own site that shows off even more of what this man can capture by shooting with something that would never engage with a bullet.

He also seems to treasure cats, and those felines he favors are documented on his Instagram account as well. Whatever the image of this documentarian, who explains that he is a phodigrapher (essentially both a photographer and a multi-media artist), it is relished as it comes to life for the viewer, often through bold colors and unique perspectives. Check out more of Gilad's work on his blog

which includes some extremely enchanting landscapes and meaningful head shots.
