Wrong-Way Driver Sets Off Deadly Pileup In Dallas
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A wrong-way driver on Stemmos Freeway set off a four car pileup that resulted in the death of a woman and traffic to be shut down for several hours Sunday morning.
A statement from Mark Pettit with TxDot said at about 7:30 a.m. a wrong way driver in the northbound lanes of Interstate 35 E at Commonwealth Drive caused a collision with at least three other vehicles.
The Dallas Sheriff's Department has arrested the suspect related to the wrong-way collision. He has been identified as 21-year-old Santiago Morin Gonzales. Gonzales faces no formal charges at this time but the use of alcohol is being investigated.
The Dallas Sheriff's Office has also identified 33-year-old Maria Vasquez as the woman killed. Her vehicle was T-boned by two cars. She died at the hospital.
No other serious injuries have been reported.
