DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Students at Moisés E. Molina High School in Dallas walked out of their classes Thursday as part of the Day Without Immigrants movement happening around the United States.

An estimated 200 students walked out of the school and into a parking lot.

The walkout was coordinated through social media as a walk in solidarity with others who wanted to make a statement about immigration.

Several students told CBS 11 that their parents didn't have legal status and wanted to walk out to support their parents.

The Dallas school district said they allowed the students the opportunity to express their First Amendment rights.

The Day Without Immigrants movement was felt in North Texas and around the U.S. as many restaurants were either short-staffed or closed.
