COLLIN COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - A grand jury in Collin County has chosen not to indict a former Melissa High School teacher.

Officials with the Collin County Sheriff's Office said there will be no formal charges against Darrell Glenn Whitten.

Whitten had faced several charges, Indecency with a Child and Improper Relationship Between Educator and Student. The accusations pertained to a time when Whitten was a teacher at Melissa High. He is no longer employed by the school district.

Officials had said that it was during the course of investigation of band director Michael Eugene Reddell, and sexual assault charges against him that they obtained information that led to Whitten's arrest.

Citing that grand jury deliberations are secret, officials with the district attorney's office said they did not know how or why the decision was made not to pursue charges.
