Last Flight For US Airways To Take Place Fall 2015

DALLAS, TX (AP) - The farewell flight for US Airways will take place this October, making room for American Airlines to take over.

Flight 434, a red-eye flight, is scheduled to leave San Francisco Thursday Oct. 17, and land in Philadelphia after 6 a.m. on Oct. 18.

American Airlines and US Airways merged in December 2013, and decided to keep the well-known American name.

The US Airways website will be shut down, signs will be changed to American's name, and airplanes will soon begin to be repainted with American's logos and colors.

American Airlines Group Inc. announced the timing of the curtain call on Friday. The company's biggest challenge may be the combining of the two airlines systems that plagued United and Continental after they combined systems in 2012.

Customers who book on US airways flights after Oct. 17 will get a new flight number bearing American's AA code. After the switch, American will still need to combine crew-scheduling and maintenance-tracking systems.

American officials said they will give special training to nearly 10,000 current employees to perform the switch from US airways reservations systems to American's.

The Fort Worth, Texas, company employees about 113,00 and is the biggest airline operator in the world by passenger traffic.
