DALLAS (CBS11) - Women-owned businesses have bounced back from the great recession in a great way—and those in North Texas are doing exceptionally well.

According to researchers at the Center for An Urban Future, women-owned businesses in Dallas grew by 58 percent during the past five years, more than twice the national average.

Owner of Oak Lawn area sweet shop, Chocolate Secrets, says she's not surprised.

"I think [in Dallas ] there is no culture of `you are woman, go sit down over there'… if you have a good idea, Dallas embraces that concept," says Pam G. Eudaric-Amiri.

Eudaric-Amiri, a self-described serial entrepreneur, has owned everything from a taxi-cab company to a food distribution firm. But, after spending two decades as a hard-hitting attorney, her latest endeavor is by far the sweetest.

"One day we said that we need a store that has everything a woman wants. And we said, we're going to put chocolate in it, and music and wine and shoes…that's why we have chocolate shoes!" (And purses)… but, the inventory is just the beginning of what makes Chocolate Secrets so special: it's the attitude of success and the wisdom that she so freely shares.

"I think we're all entrepreneurs. We just have to be open to 'yes'…the problem is, we're all open to 'no'."

By the way, 'yes' is Eudaric-Amiri's favorite word. So she uses it liberally when other would-be small business owners go looking for places to display their wares.

"I wanted to create opportunities for people… Chocolate Secrets is just a `yes' to me… so I say `yes' to everyone else.

That means that a young employee with a beautiful voice gets to sing on Wednesday evenings. Another artisan displays custom jewelry pieces. Someone else approached her wanting to teach French lessons.

Her response? "Yes!"

"Men have been taught that 'yes' is for them, and women have been taught that 'no' is for them… but, that's not true. 'Yes' is for all of us."
