DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A Dallas man is behind bars after setting a dog on fire.

Police were called to a home on Utah Avenue after a dog owner said one of his dogs was set on fire. One of the man's relatives told police the dogs were fighting in his backyard. When his relative went in the yard to break them up, Otis Gardner, who was a guest at the house, told him he had poured gasoline on one of the dogs, setting it on fire to prevent the dogs from fighting.

The dog was taken to a veterinarian by the owner and is expected to survive.

Gardner took off before the officer's arrival. He was later located, arrested and charged with cruelty to a Non-Livestock Animal.
