Ways For DFW Kids To Celebrate St. Patrick's Day

St. Patrick's Day in DFW is more than just the usual green-colored brew and rowdy parade in the streets. For families looking to get into the St. Patrick's Day spirit, DFW offers several family-friendly and affordable events that are guaranteed to be fun, entertaining and unforgettable for the kids. From pony rides in Cowtown to a triathlon race in Keller, DFW is widely incorporating more kid friendly events for one of the greenest days year round.

Dallas St. Patrick's Parade And Festival

Hours: March 16, 2013 – 11 a.m.

A huge overhaul by the city of Dallas has promised that the once booze-guzzling, boisterous St. Patrick's Day celebration continuously held on Greenville Avenue will become more kid and family-friendly. Prevailing over Greenville Avenue from the cross-section of Park Lane up to SMU Boulevard, the newly named Dallas St. Patrick's Parade and Festival is set to attract more than 100,000 people this year. Dallas city officials are encouraging families to partake in the celebration and enjoy the excitement of animated parade floats, music and great entertainment. Officially held on the Saturday prior to St. Patrick's Day, the new Dallas St. Patrick's Parade and Festival is the first of its kind and will set the stage for successive family-friendly St. Patrick's Day events in Dallas for years to come.

Racing for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow has never been more meaningful than for the kids participating in the triathlon race for St. Patrick's Day out in Keller. Officially in its second year running, the Keller Kids Triathlon is a perfect way to get your children actively involved for the St. Patrick's Day holiday. Race groups begin at the "Leap Frog" group for ages 4-6 and go upwards to the "Gladiators" group for ages 11-13. As with all triathlons, the race includes a swim in the Keller Natatorium, bike ride on Bear Creek Parkway and a run on the Keller trails. Registration is $35.00 and the actual race is on March 9.

The Stonebridge Racers will host their 1K, 5K and 15K races on March 9 at the Stonebridge Beach Club in McKinney. Yet another way for DFW kids to stay in shape while "going green" for St. Patty's Day, the Leaping Leprechauns race is guaranteed fun and amusement for both parents and their children. The race will run through Stonebridge Ranch with music, food and most importantly for the little ones--prizes! Children under 9 will receive a medal for participating in this year's race. Registration is $15.00, however the fee will increase to $20.00 if registration is completed less than one week prior to the race date.

The legendary Cowtown is set to go green on Saturday, March 16, 2013 in honor of St. Patrick's Day. The annual Cowtown Goes Green event is one of the larger St. Patrick's Day celebrations for the city of Fort Worth and indisputably one of the most kid friendly. From pony rides to petting zoos to featured games and contests from Radio Disney, the Fort Worth Stockyard's Cowtown Goes Green celebration is sure to be a hit with all children. Admission to this event is free and open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on March 16.
