The difference between macarons and macaroons is more than just an extra "o." The single "o" macarons (pronounced mah-kah-rohn) are beloved French patisseries that were originally created in Italy. The macaron is made to be a meringue cookie with a sandwich-like style that incorporates egg whites in its creation. The double "o" macaroon (pronounced mah-kah-roon) is a Southern treat made from shredded coconut and condensed milk. It resembles a baked haystack. Whether you like one or the other, there are plenty of places in North Texas to try them both.
