Police end Macomb County landfill search for missing Warren woman
(CBS DETROIT) — Police have concluded their search of a Macomb County landfill as they continue looking for a missing mother of two from Warren, her family said.
Ashley Elkins, 30, was last seen leaving her home on Jan. 2 in a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. Her vehicle was recovered in the area of 13 Mile and Little Mack in Roseville. Police also seized a dumpster from the Hampton Court Apartments, where Elkins' ex-boyfriend, DeAndre Howard Booker, lives.
Dozens of law enforcement agencies spent last week in the Pine Tree Acres landfill in Lenox Township searching for evidence.
Booker, 32, of Roseville, was arrested in Flint on Jan. 8. He was charged on Jan. 9 with lying to a police officer in the disappearance of Elkins.
Earlier this month, police said that there is a "strong possibility" that foul play is involved in this case and that it most likely occurred at the Hampton Court Apartments and that "significant evidence, including forensics," was recovered at the apartment complex.
Family told CBS News Detroit that Elkins' cellphone had last pinged at Booker's apartment complex in Roseville, where authorities
Elkins' mother, Monika Elkins, says her daughter had recently received her blackjack dealer license. Her first day was supposed to be the day she went missing.
"The family has learned from Roseville police that their search for Ashley's remains at the landfill has concluded without success," said family spokesperson Maurice Morton. "Though we are disappointed in the results, we are appreciative of the efforts of more than 50 law enforcement officials and volunteers. We are requesting privacy at this time as we await a charging decision by the Macomb County Prosecutor's office. Thank you, everyone, for your prayers and support."
Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact the Warren Police Department or the Roseville Police Department.
