(CBS DETROIT) - If you plan to celebrate the Detroit Lions playoff Saturday with new merch, pizza or a round of adult beverages with your friends, you'll be contributing to an expected economic boost for the city.

A new analysis from Anderson Economic Group LLC, an economic consulting firm in East Lansing, estimates the net economic impact of the NFL's National Football Conference Divisional Playoff game at more than $64 million. The company routinely works on studies that illustrate economic trends in Michigan and across the country.

The Lions will host the Washington Commanders at Ford Field for the playoff.

The consulting firm concluded that game day attendance will have a direct economic impact of $39,318,531, with an additional indirect impact of $25,557,045. That's a combined total of $64,875,576.

As a comparison, AEG's study on the 2024 NFL Draft, which took place over three days during April in Detroit, calculated a net impact of over $165 million.

When working on the playoff analysis, AEG considered direct costs, along with the impact of what happens when consumers choose one event over another. It also included an allowance for the portion of the gate revenue. All told, the estimate includes expenses inside and outside the stadium such as hotel expenses for the out-of-town fans.

"The indirect economic impact from increased consumption at retail establishments around Detroit will extend past Saturday's game," Tyler Theile, vice president and director of public policy at AEG, added.

"Beyond the immediate benefits, the momentum of the Detroit Lions is another example of a positive national spotlight on the city that will enhance its reputation as a vibrant destination, creating long-term opportunities for tourism and economic development."
